Synopsis:

Attracting, developing and equipping the diverse future workforce to support the much-needed energy transition is one of the Energy Institute’s key objectives. The ‘Net Zero for Professionals’ training course was developed with that objective in mind. It allows participants to develop a solid understanding of the concept of net zero and also covers arrange of practical elements ranging from calculating a carbon footprint and setting carbon reduction targets to implementation aspects.

This webinar will outline the skills required for professionals responsible for driving their organisations and/or clients towards meeting their Net Zero objectives. It will also look into the opportunities and challenges on the road to Net Zero for two international organisations.

Speakers:

Apostolos Gkrimpas, Energy & Carbon Management Lead, Energy Institute.

Biog, Apostolos holds a Master of Science in Energy, Environmental Technology and Economics from City University London and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from University of Athens. He has more than 10 years’ experience within the energy sector.

Apostolos is responsible for managing the Energy Institute’s renowned and market-leading Energy Institute’s energy and carbon management training portfolio. His responsibilities include content development, quality assurance and business development of the EI’s energy and carbon management training products and services.

He has designed and developed the EI’s 3-Level energy management training framework covering more than 40 different training courses and supporting thousands of energy professionals across the UK and the world over the years. He currently focuses on expanding the EI’s training portfolio to support the industry’s required transition to a low carbon system/economy,

Apostolos has successfully project managed the development and delivery of bespoke training courses and products for a wide range of organisations in the UK, Middle East, Africa and South East Asia.

He leads the project management of the EI’s own Net Zero journey and has developed numerous energy management publications for the Energy Institute. He develops quality processes and procedures and oversees their use across the EI’s training team.

Gareth Veal, Energy & Net Zero Consultant: Strategy, Engineering, Training, & Deliver, Energy Institute.

Biog, Gareth has 20 years of experience developing and delivering energy, climate and net zero strategies.  He has worked with multinationals such as Sainsbury’s, Shell, Airbus, BAE systems; SMEs for example in the hospitality and manufacturing sectors; public sector organisations such as the NHS and local authorities; and third sector organisations such as Business Improvement Districts and community led groups energy and climate groups. 

Gareth has acted as a trainer for the Energy Institute since 2016, both developing and delivering courses.  He also developed and helps track and deliver the Energy Institute’s Net Zero strategy and associated Science Based Targets. 

He has a PhD on the design and implementation of carbon markets and has published on the topic, as well as acted as a visiting fellow at the University of Bath.  Gareth is an ESOS lead Assessor and a Chartered Energy Manager.  Most recently, Gareth has become a Certified Passivhaus consultant, working on Passivhaus projects in the NHS, for multi residential blocks, and on Passivhaus Schools. 

Gareth is committed to the delivery of net zero and is well placed to tackle it as a strategist, engineer and experienced energy manager.

Chris Johnson CNZ, PGDipEDM(open), DipNEBOSH, Group Environment & Energy Manager, Volac International.

Biog, Chris’ working life has been varied, initially starting out in Mechanical Engineering by doing an apprenticeship, before moving into site-based Environment Management. This was part of 22 years working for a Ductile Iron foundries group, followed by a couple of years in land remediation & sales, then 11 years in the food and drink sector, in various Environment, Energy and Health, Safety and Environment management roles.

Currently Chris is the Group Environment and Energy Manager for Volac International Ltd, a world leader in Dairy based nutrition for both humans and animals. He has been with Volac since June 2022 and in the two years since, the company has been on a journey around the next steps in its Sustainability story, especially on carbon reporting and reduction.

That is what led Chris on to completing the ‘Net Zero for Professionals’ course, with the Energy Institute. With already being an Associate Member of the institute, it made perfect sense to attend this course to hone his existing knowledge base.

When not at work, Chris just loves being outside, whether that’s walking, cycling, angling, or something else, there is no place he would rather be.

Andy Holt, Sustainability Manager, GlaxoSmithKline.

Biog, Andy is a Chartered Electrical Engineer, working at GSK for 16 years across manufacturing, R&D and commercial estate. He has delivered significant energy and water reductions across the business over the years and is now focussing on delivering carbon net zero objectives across GSK’s R&D portfolio. Andy is passionate about sustainability. He has recently installed solar PV and Tesla battery at home, Stevenage, UK. He is married with 4 children and he enjoys cycling playing tennis, badminton and clarinet in his spare time .
