Her background includes a Masters degree in Sustainability Studies and a role as a Sustainability Projects Coordinator for an environmental C.I.C.

Ruth leads the CCSA, overseeing its London and Brussels offices and representing its 100+ members to UK and EU level decision-makers. Ruth joined the CCSA in October 2021 following a public sector career spanning almost two decades. Selected for the first cohort of the Future Leaders Programme at the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, Ruth managed delivery of the Electricity Market Reform White Paper and subsequent Energy Act 2013 to drive investment in renewable electricity. Ruth went on to set up the Low Carbon Contracts Company, where, as Director of Strategy & Development, she oversaw implementation of two key features of the UK's electricity market – the CfD and Capacity Market – and the company’s development into a trusted advisor to government on decarbonisation. From 2008-2010, Ruth led UK's negotiation of the EU Directive on CO2 storage and its international CCS policy, holding vice-chair roles in the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and the Zero Emissions Platform. Prior to working in energy, Ruth was in the Civil Service Fast Stream, as a Financial Services Strategy adviser at HM Treasury and an economic adviser for the City of London Corporation.

Chris’ working life has been varied, initially starting out in Mechanical Engineering by doing an apprenticeship, before moving into site-based Environment Management. This was part of 22 years working for a Ductile Iron foundries group, followed by a couple of years in land remediation & sales, then 11 years in the food and drink sector, in various Environment, Energy and Health, Safety and Environment management roles. Currently Chris is the Group Environment and Energy Manager for Volac International Ltd, a world leader in Dairy based nutrition for both humans and animals. He has been with Volac since June 2022 and in the two years since, the company has been on a journey around the next steps in its Sustainability story, especially on carbon reporting and reduction. That is what led Chris on to completing the ‘Net Zero for Professionals’ course, with the Energy institute. With already being an Associate Member of the institute, it made perfect sense to attend this course to hone his existing knowledge base. When not at work, Chris just loves being outside, whether that’s walking, cycling, angling, or something else, there is no place he would rather be.

Stephen Potter is Emeritus Professor of Transport Strategy. He joined the OU in 1974 as one of its first PhD research students. His PhD was on the design of transport systems for new towns. His research has included exploring the human and institutional aspects of transport innovation, the diffusion of cleaner vehicle technologies, low carbon transport systems and more sustainable travel behaviours. He has played a key role in developing the University’s links with the Milton Keynes Low Carbon and Smart City programmes. He has written on a number of design and innovation modules, including T317 Innovation: designing for change, T219 Environmental Management, U116 Environment: journeys through a changing world and TB801 Technology and Innovation Management.
